Suzy Stauffer, Founder, Beyond the Bus Stop

Somewhere in the midst of being amazing mothers, we can get lost.  We stop doing the little things that make us happy.  We start wearing sweatpants everywhere except to the gym.  I was one of those moms.

I chose to leave a career to stay home and raise my three children.  It was after post-partum depression/mid life that I realized my quest to be “a perfect mom” had distanced me from myself.

My life had become an endless trip to the bus stop and back. Like many moms, I was taking kids to the bus stop each day while never going beyond with my personal dreams.  I fantasized about making my life exciting again and realized I was 100% responsible for my happiness and it was time to take action!

Out of the isolation I was feeling,   I emerged with a determination to see if a mother could journey back to herself.  I set out to see what was possible.   I had to prove to myself if the following messages I was hearing and reading were true:

·       You can create a life you love.

·       Your dreams can come true.

·       It is never too late to realize your passion.

·       Anything is possible if you truly believe and not give up.

These are very grand messages for any mother! But, I had no choice but to charge forward.

I shared these thoughts with a friend.  She mentioned that she goes to the bus stop in pajamas.  I was astounded to find out that other moms were in a rut too. My friend smiled and said, “Don’t worry; I have clothes for beyond the bus stop!”  It was that moment I realized many times dreams, aspirations and careers are placed on hold to raise families, which can become very isolating for a woman used to independence and a successful career.  In response to this essential need, I created Beyond the Bus Stop® , the first national woman’s organization focusing solely on the mother’s needs by connecting, supporting and empowering moms everywhere.  The website www.beyondthebusstop.com has evolved to become an empowering resource for women looking to find information, become inspired and is now a dynamic social networking website that continues to grow.

The mission for Beyond the Bus Stop is to strengthen great women into great action and go beyond their wildest dreams.  Teaching mothers everywhere to become H.O.T. - Happy, Optimistic and Taking Action!
